There are other uses for Botox besides wrinkle reduction.
Botox is widely known for its use in reducing wrinkles on the face and neck. There are several other uses for Botox such as helping relieve migraines, excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis), reducing the masseter muscle appearance (chewing muscle) of your face and reduction of TMJ pain. Dr. Keshwani is a skilled and trained professional with all these types of treatments.
When receiving any type of Botox injections, a numbing cream will be applied to the area and cold air is blown onto the area as the injections are administered. This helps to reduce any pain. Most of our patients advise that the injections are painless.
Botox is used to help in relieving the chronic pain of headaches or migraines which occur more than 15 times per month. There are several different locations and the units of Botox used around the head and neck area. The procedure takes about 20 minutes and lasts from 3 to 5 months. After your consultation about the migraines, Dr. Keshwani will inject Botox into specific areas to help alleviate the pain.
Many people suffer from hyperhidrosis on their underarms and are prescribed medication or medicated antiperspirant. Botox can be injected into the armpits to help in stopping excess perspiration. It works by blocking the secretion of the chemical which activates the sweat glands. The procedure requires a particular number of units of Botox under each arm and lasts between 3 to 5 months.
A patient who is not happy with their masseter muscles being larger than they would like can receive Botox to help reduce them. The Botox injections into the muscles on each side of the face will help in weakening it and causing a slimmer looking appearance. If a patient thinks their face is too square then Botox may be able to help with slimming it down.
TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder) pain can also be reduced with Botox injections. Dr. Keshwani will inject certain areas of the jaw which will help in the reduction of the pain caused by TMJ. The procedure is about 10 minutes. The relief seen by most patients is within 12 to 36 hours and lasts between 3 to 6 months.
